This role is primarily focused on supporting our Mill operations, with additional support provided to our Bioscience facility as needed.

From payloaders and semis to forklifts, locomotives, yard dogs, lifts, and other industrial equipment, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and repairing the equipment that keeps our business moving.

What You'll Do

  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on a wide range of mobile and industrial equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, brake, transmission, and diesel engine systems
  • Respond to breakdowns and equipment emergencies with urgency and professionalism
  • Maintain and repair equipment including:

    • Semi tractors and trailers
    • Yard dogs
    • Forklifts
    • Locomotives
    • Scissor lifts and man lifts
    • Welding equipment
    • Other heavy industrial equipment
    • Complete welding and fabrication repairs as needed
  • Perform basic electrical diagnostics and repairs
  • Support OSHA inspections and maintain safe work practices
  • Travel periodically to our Markesan location (typically once per week) and support other Didion facilities as needed
  • Work collaboratively across departments to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability

What Will Make You Successful

  • Previous experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, fleet mechanic, or similar role
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working on multiple types of heavy equipment and mobile machinery
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to respond to equipment emergencies, particularly involving locomotives and forklifts
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to safely work at heights and in varying environmental conditions
  • Must provide and maintain personal mechanic tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Locomotive maintenance experience
  • Manufacturing, industrial, agricultural, or fleet maintenance experience
  • ASE certifications or other technical certifications
  • CDL or other equipment operation experience

Certifications are not required. Relevant hands-on experience is what matters most.

What We Provide

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Company-provided specialty tools and equipment
  • Stable, year-round work in a growing organization
  • Opportunities to expand your skills across a variety of equipment and operations
  • A team-oriented environment where your expertise is valued and your contributions make a real impact
